I heard a news report yesterday that Ford will be the first major car maker to cease putting CD players in new vehicles. And someone told me today that Apple has pulled the CD/DVD drive in the latest iteration of the Mac Mini. Does this spell the end of the optical media era?
If you have been to a Best Buy or Walmart recently, you may have noticed the shrinking movie and music sections. In fact, Best Buy is reporting that they are going to be shrinking may of their big box stores into little boxes selling mobile electronics. I'm sure that this has something to do with shrinking demand for CDs and DVDs. You don't need much floor space if you are selling phones, mp3 players and cards for tunes and movies.
This will be an interesting trend to watch.
